Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
I would recommend 5/5 if it were easier to get an A in the class. An A is a 94/100 based on exams, recitation discussions, quizzes, and a presentation (that everyone gets 30/30 on if they put in a decent amount of effort). Still, a 94 is a pretty high average. Prof. Rushlow is really passionate about her lectures and loves to talk genetics. Her tests and quizzes are so straightforward. I would recommend this course for any science lover who is interested in genetics!
Course highlights:
The tests and quizzes were straightforward if you just do the homework and practice tests she gives you. The discussion papers are so interesting! The final presentation is on a topic of your choosing and there are thousands of fun topics to think of! The class was very informational on different genetic screens and tests and applications of genetics in scientific research.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
DO THE HOMEWORK! Don't skip recitation because you literally learn how to do problems which will get you a 100 on the tests. Read the discussion papers and participate - you're graded! Her practice tests have questions that literally show up again on the exams. Lastly, study her lecture notes (she gives them out in powerpoint format) - take notes on the power point in class and go over them for the test! EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS ON THOSE SLIDES.
