Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This was actually the second time of taking this course. I first took the course with another professor in the spring of 2016. At the beginning I was doing well as I even got a 94 on the first exam. However, do to a death in my family, the tables turned as my emotions affected my schoolwork. For the rest of the semester I had a situational depression and wouldn't do so well in my studies, no matter how hard I tried. Therefore I had to end up taking the course again in the fall of 2016. The professor taught the subject so good that I couldn't believe it was the same subject I was taking. She always made sure that the class understood the topic before moving on to the next as well as making herself available frequently through office hours.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course was that after thanksgiving break, there was a quiz that was `given due to it being postponed after a snowstorm before the break. Unexpectedly, most of the class didn't do so well. However she undertood that everybody has a bad day and agreed to give the whole class credit for quiz corrections

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would advice students to make sure they do all the homework because you will only do good in math with practice. Practice always makes perfect.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Calculus A is a course that I would highly recommend to other students at RIT. Even if you have taken a calculus course in high school, I still think it's important to refine your skills because many of the programs at RIT require a high level of understanding of calculus. I learned many skills in this class that I still use in my major related courses today such as: derivatives, integrals, and limits. In order to be successful, it's crucial to look through the textbook and repeat problems based on the section you're covering in class. I wish I started doing that sooner as it really helped me to master the problems for future exams and is now in my long term memory.

    Course highlights:

Some of my favorite activities in this course were the workshops. Every Monday and Friday, for the second hour of lecture, the class got into groups of three people and worked on practice problems. The professor walked around and answered any questions that we had. This was immensely helpful as I got to figure problems out with other students and had one-on-one time with the professor. The best of both worlds.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you're considering this course, be prepared to do lots of practice problems during class as well as outside of class. The class utilizes the textbook for example problems and you can even find answers to the odd numbered exercises in the back of the book to make sure you're understanding the material. Also, make sure to ask questions in class if something doesn't make sense as the professors are usually happy to slow down and re-explain a difficult concept.
