The Periodic Table Outline
The Periodic Table consists of many boxes that indicate different elements.
These elements are arranged precisely throughout the table. Three basic categories
of elements are metals, metalloids, or nonmetals.
What does each box
For a new compound, the % composition can be
determined experimentally. From this, you calculate the
empirical formula of the compound.
Empirical Formula gives the lowest whole-number ratio
of the atoms of the eleme
5.1 Properties of Compounds in aqueous solutions
Solution a homopgenous mixture with two or more substances. Solvent: Dissolves in the Solute Solute: Dissolves the solvent. NaCl(aq) : NaCl is the solute, water is the solvent Ionic Compounds in Aqueous Sol
Depict the kind of reactants and products and their relative amounts in a reaction. 4 Al(s) + 3 O2(g) -> 2 Al2O3(s) The numbers in the front are called stoichiometric coefficients The letters (s), (g), and (l) are the physical states of
3.1 Molecules, Compounds and Formulas
Molecule: smallest identifiable unit into which a pure substance can be divided and still retain the chemical properties of a substance. 2 or more elements are bonded together 2 Al + 3Br2 Al2Br6 (aluminum bromide) For
2.1 Protons, Electrons and Neutrons
Three subatomic particles make up atoms: Protons (positive) and Neutrons (neutral). Found in the nucleus. Electrons (negative) Orbit the Nucleus. Account for most of atomic volume. *atoms have no net charge, that is the
