Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I definitely recommend this course because it really helps you open your mind about certain issues. In this class I got to see students reflect on where they stand in society and the way it benefits them. Also it was great to have a professor that encourages a safe environment and encourages students to understand other perspectives which made me feel really comfortable in my class.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course was understanding how different sociologist viewed problems in our society. It was interesting to learn that some sociologist viewed crime as essential for society because it helped society realize what is morally wrong and right. Basically some sociologist felt that if something exist in society it’s because it has a purpose.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice is that you should definitely take this class even if sociology is not your major or minor. I say this because sociology makes you a more understanding and conscious person and in many jobs like policemen, doctors and teachers that understanding is essential. To succeed in this class you should definitely have a semi- open mind or at least be willing to learn things that you may not fully agree with. Furthermore be prepared to be a great listener or take great notes because they will really help you on some test. Lastly make sure to read the books that are required of you because the lectures don’t cover everything in the book and some things from the test come straight from the book

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This was my favorite course I took at New Paltz. I looked forward to it every day, even when the material was going to be slightly dry, because Professor Corrado had a fantastic, enthusiastic spirit and rally made be want to know more about all sorts of social issues.

    Course highlights:

I most liked learning about the implications of the US prison system, especially their racial and drug-related links.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Do all of the readings and annotate to help keep the information in your head. If you need help, she is 100% there to give it!
