    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Polt was verbally abusive to us and it was a very hostile environment to learn in.

    Course highlights:

I learned to make flash cards in order to memorize the more difficult mechanisms. By treating each atom as if it has a personality, it's much easier to intuitively figure out which reactions will and won't occur. For example, fluoride likes to flee - he pops off of a carbon chain quickly!

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make flash cards as you learn and review them each week a little bit at a time. Take all the practice tests you possibly can!

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend this course if you need to take Organic Chemistry. Ghosh is a really good professor. He teaches simply and clearly, and you can tell he wants his students to succeed. I came out of the class understanding the material well.

    Course highlights:

Organic Chemistry is a tough subject, but Dr. Ghosh is by far one of the best Ochem professors at the UA. He's pretty funny, and what I really like is that he only teaches the things that are essential, so he'll cut out content from the book that you don't actually need to know. Definitely recommend if you took Jon for Ochem 1, as their teaching styles are similar.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Ochem isn't easy, but with practice, the concepts and reactions eventually come pretty naturally. Try to study ahead and practice of time-- cramming right before the exam isn't very effective. Go to office hours if you're confused. The review sessions ran by the preceptors are golden, and will help you a lot.
