    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you are looking to learn about modern news and media, this is not the class for you. Geoff is very knowledgeable about the history of news, but this course barely covers television and the internet. I learned a lot about the printing press, as well as influential journalists like W.T. Stead, but if you are expecting to learn about social media or modern journalism, this is not the class for you.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much about the history of journalism. From the printing press to the radio, the class covers most important events in American and European history. Geoff gives you assignments where you have to write "news style articles" which is helpful if you are considering a career in journalism. The guest speakers he brings in are very intelligent and know a lot about their professions. Geoff isn't very informed about social media, or blogging , but he definitely knows a lot about traditional journalism, and is a great resource for questions.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Attend the lectures. Geoff gives out "snap quizzes" which are basically pop quizzes. He is also very strict on deadlines so turn everything in on time. Make an effort to study for the tests and keep your notes for the final. The class is based on a few big assignments so put effort into them!

    Course Overview:

I believe the professor knew how to keep the class interesting and I enjoyed going every week. I would pay close attention to the notes and readings and study really hard for the exams.

I learned how to protect my writing from being copy written

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Keep up on all your notes and read all the readings
