Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would absolutely recommend this course for someone who has taken Spanish before and has some knowledge of the language. Dr. Urbanc runs her class based on how well her students are doing and if some students do not understand something, she takes her time to explain it. As one of my favorite teachers, she has definitely inspired me to continue Spanish with her.

    Course highlights:

Taking Dr. Urbanc's course has definitely improved my communication skills. In high school, teachers taught solely for tests. There was not much conversation in Spanish that was required. I have also learned more about Latin America as well as Spain such as capitals and culture.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Accents. Do not forget your accents and make sure you put them in the right place. Also, make sure do the homework because although she does not collect it, we do go over it in class.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it really makes you appreciate other cultures (I.E. Spanish culture). I learned so much more than just the language.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course are that I really liked are how we went into the nearby town of Port Richmond on Staten Island a lot and really got immersed into what it is like for a lot of people of hispanic origin. Especially those who live in poverty and/ or have to work multiple jobs to support their family. This class was very tough for me, but thats because I have never taken Spanish before and I was in a very accelerated beginner Spanish course designed for people with three or more years of the language and I finished it with a B.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you take this course I would recommend that you study a lot, and apply the language to your every day life so that you can have a better chance at getting it into your long-term memory. You will also enjoy the language a lot more if you can apply it and immerse yourself.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The professor picks favorites and makes it very evident who she does and does not like.

    Course highlights:

I have to say we did speed through the book but I have been taking Spanish for 7 years and learned more in this one semester than I ever have.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

You really need to devote time to going over notes and the textbook and studying and learning on your own. Memorizing the material temporarily for a test will not help you in the long run.
