    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because accounting is an essential part to any business. It is required for anyone pursuing a business major, and after taking the course I understand why. Accounting records and keeps track of a company's financial records, which helps a company allocate their money to the different areas of their business. Professor Eller worked as an accountant before becoming a professor, and his experience helps students to better understand the material. He is passionate about accounting, and does not what his students to just pass the class, he wants his students to understand the material.

    Course highlights:

I learned the basics of accounting, and what accounting truly is. Before, I thought accounting was a boring desk job centered around math. I quickly learned that accounting has little to do with math, rather it is analyzing a company's finances, and then recorded them. It requires you to think critically, and be able to analyze a given set of numbers. This course follows the book, so there are no surprises on the exams.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If you want to succeed in accounting, attend class. Accounting is not a course that you can teach yourself a couple days before the exam by just reading the textbook. It is important to go to class and participate. Professor Eller makes sure each student is engaged by calling on students for answers, which helps students learn the material. He is very willing to answer any question, and is great about responding to email in a timely manner. I wish I went to more office hours to better understand some of the concepts. It is important that students understand each concept, because they build on each other throughout the semester.
