    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I found this course to be the most difficult of all the courses I completed in earning my biology degree. What killed my grade was that homework was a test grade and was extremely hard.

    Course highlights:

One positive thing I can take away from this class was that I learned when you have a bad teacher sometimes it is up to you to take initiative and find another way to learn the material that works better for you instead of blaming the instructor for bad grades.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

I would tell students considering this course to find another professor or avoid if not required for your major.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend Organic Chemistry to all science majors because it pushed students to understand such challenging concepts. Dr. Morehead is a phenomenal professor that dedicates so much more time out of class than any other professor I know to help students. He teaches with no PowerPoint presentations, instead he uses a stylus pen to draw organic molecules and their reaction mechanisms on a computer, which is shown on two giant screen projectors. Dr. Morehead is a Harvard graduate as well as a Duke graduate where he received his PhD in organic chemistry with history of research at California Institute of Technology. Needless to say he is a very intelligent man that enjoys teaching what he loves.

    Course highlights:

There are many highlights to this course, one being the opportunity to learn such complex concepts. Going to class everyday not knowing what will be in store is exciting because it will always be something you can relate to, being composed of organic matter. A main highlight of the course is that Dr. Morehead has Question and Answer sessions ever week of the semester never skipping one. This is an amazing opportunity to do homework questions together for almost two hours! There aren't many professors that are willing to continue a lecture and go over homework before it's due every single week. When taking the class, one can never say that there weren't enough resources available to understand the material. Also, a certain pride comes about once the class is achieved with a good grade. Organic Chemistry has taught me self discipline as well as perseverance and dedication to my work because of how difficult the course is.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

What is necessary to succeed is to use every outside of class resource. It is entirely too difficult to tackle the concepts on your own. Also, even though there usually isn't an attendance policy, it is absolutely necessary to attend every class. Missing one class of organic chemistry can set you back so far because sometimes entire an chapter are covered in one day! When studying for a test, in order to receive an A or B, the latest you can start studying is four days prior. If the test is on a Friday, start studying on Monday and exponentially increase vigor each day until the test.
