    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I have taken CHEM 2131 twice. Don't be scared! I am actually glad I did. Many students receive a C for a final grade and take CHEM 2132, but most don't end up doing well as they would like. It is important to have a really good understanding of all the reactions in Organic Chemistry I so that when you are introduced to new reactions in Organic Chemistry II that use those same reactions, you aren't confused.

    Course highlights:

By taking this course, I understood the conceptual understanding behind certain reactions. The first time I took Organic Chemistry I, I memorized my way through the reactions which ended up not helping me on the exams. In order to do well in this course, it is important to truly understand all the concepts you will learn.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not memorize! Always seek help from your professors even for the slightest confusion! Do a TON of practice problems. Study with your peers!

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Etzkron seems like a terrifying professor, I would know because even after two semesters with him (orgo 1 and 2), he still scares me. However, he knows his stuff. Although his exams were terrible, he was a great professor. He's no easy A (or B or C), but passing his class certainly means that you know organic chemistry.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to study more efficiently in his course, because without proper study skills I would have been toast. His exams are brutal, but passing them makes you feel great.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Don't let the work drown you. Do five to ten problems a day, so you don't have to do forty over the weekend. Also, talk to him after the exams, go visit his office hours. He really is one of the nicest people I've ever met, he's just so intimidating because of how smart he it.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr.Horger is a great professor, but very difficult. He expects students to keep up and stay ahead of the class. Studying is required and highly recommended.

    Course highlights:

You will touch on types of reactions and the mechanism of the reactions. Additionally, you will learn how to draw and identify the steriochemistry and regiochemistry of compounds.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you are on the verge of failing or withdrawing, do not stress too much about it. Of course it isn't good, but realize that this course is very difficult. Understand why you didn't do well and try again the following semester.
