Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Tran is amazing teacher. He balances lecture with class discussion. The homework is interesting and the essays are challenging and fun.

    Course highlights:

My favorite part of this course was researching and writing an essay. I chose to discuss an article about insect venom. It was so fascinating and it helped me better understand organism metabolism.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I found a book on genetics to read along with the class. It was purely for fun, but it deepened my knowledge on the subject and gave me broader perspective to the course material.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course, because biology is part of everyday life. It is what makes us all us. Dr. Kinkle was also an amazing professor that really got through to his students. He implemented learning techniques that allowed students to actually understand what they were being taught, rather than just cramming information. Students were put into groups at the beginning of the semester and would work on problems together, as well as discuss topics that the class was learning about.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were definitely Dr. Kinkle's teaching style, the friendships I made with students in my major, along with widening my knowledge of biology. This course was also a rather difficult course. It was not made easy, so the students actually had to put in effort for their grades, which really set the tone for my college courses. I learned that just because it's an intro class, doesn't mean that it's going to be easy or anything like I experienced in high school.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would tell students to do the learning outcomes that the professor posts before class and to actually read the chapters that are due for the next day in lecture. Going to class without any prior knowledge about what the topic is will not do the student or their group any favors. Also, by doing the learning outcomes, it will help the student realize what they understand and what they need to work on for upcoming exams. A lot of time needs to be put in outside of lecture as well, it is a good idea for students to work on practice problems or to discuss topics with other students in the class. Going to the professor's office hours will greatly benefit the student if they are struggling in lecture, need clarification on topics, or just to get an idea of where they stand in the course and to have a relationship with the professor.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I went into college not knowing what I wanted to do. This course set me off on the path to medical school.

Biology 1 introduced some basic features of anatomy, cells and the human body.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Review the material at least twice, even if you think you know it.
