    Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

    This is an amazing course. It went into a lot of conservation biology, which I did not expect but was very happy to learn. This is a really good course if you have a true love for nature and wildlife. A tip for this class is to ALWAYS do you learning outcomes. They truly prepare you for class and if you do not do them, you will be left in the dust.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    The Biology classes at The University of Cincinnati are very challenging. The professors believe in a type of learning call "group centered" which focuses less on lecturing and more on self/peer learning. There are lectures but there is a lot of discussion and questions that students should be prepared to answer. Since the class can sit at least 75 or more students, your attendance is determined by answering "clicker questions" before, during and after class. These questions count for part of your grade and can hurt it if you are late to class and love to flutter out early. In order to pass this these questions you MUST do the readings and MOST importantly the learning objectives. Professors also assign seating in groups. My advice is to request to sit in the front, I moved from the back to the front and saw a increase in my test scores. This class was not a walk in the park but focus and you will pass. Lastly go see the teacher for help, I passed the class in part because I went to go see Dr. Beyette on at least three occasions for help along with tutoring.

    Course highlights:

    The course focuses very much on EVOLUTION! This is a theme that runs throughout the semester and a student needs to get the material conceptually. Topics range from the evolution of plants, animals, fetal development, and photosynthesis to name a few. One thing I learned was the process of the movement of water and nutrients through the xylem and phloem of trees, Get ready to expand your knowledge!

    Advice for students:

    The best advice I can give to a student entering this course is to READ the text. There is a lot of reading but not doing it will leave you completely lost. Also most importantly think critically. The professors in the Biology department do NOT make tests that are full of define the term questions. A student has to know material. They say in the course if you can make it make sense to your grandmother who does not know anything about Biology then you understand it. Utilize the professor, students pay tuition that pays the professor his or her salary, their job is more than just the 50 minutes you see them 3 times a week. Lastly don't wait until the last month of the course to get help. The final exam is comprehensive so its impossible to learn a whole semester's worth of information in a few weeks.
