    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Chem 1035 is known as a "weed out" class for students planning to go into STEM fields because it is extremely challenging. I highly recommend Dr. Amataes because she teaches the difficult material in a way that makes sense and she actually cares and puts in time to make sure her students understand it. Favorite Professor at Virginia Tech.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot from Dr. Amataes. She made sure that the every student understood the basics of chemistry so that they could go on to do well in other chemistry courses.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't want until there's a test to get help. If you don't understand the material that the professor went over in that class or the classes that week, then get help ASAP. I would email the professor for their office hours and look at the syllabus for other resources available.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course is required for lots of majors so if you have the chance to take it with Amateis, do it! She is is one of the professors who will make you love the subject. As general recommendations about this course, Do your homework as early as possible, try to practice and review the lecture after you take it to make sure that you understand everything and you got the points of the lecture. Also, there are lots of opportunities to help you, if you do not understand something, just go and ask. Do not be stressed by other's opinions who are saying that this course is very hard. it is not if you did what you have to do.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about the fundamentals of chemistry. I think this course taught me a lot of things other than chemistry. I learned how to make a good study plan, and I fixed my study habits during this course.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not be overwhelmed and enjoy the material you are taking

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Bump is excellent at explaining the content thoroughly and made sure we had practice when it was needed. Her notes were not the same as the test but gave a superb foundation to being able to figure out the hardest questions. Do not forget the online assignments . They are crucial bumping up your grade when you are just below a certain letter grade.

    Course highlights:

I learned about reactions and bonding. It was interesting to me and I found the course easy to follow and engaging.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do the online work and go over the notes for every test. Do the practice tests. After all that, you should be fine.
