    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Garman is an awesome professor and knows how to push her students to think independently about issues and help us thrive. She doesn’t want anyone to fail and will do her best to help as long as you ask.

    Course highlights:

A lot of questions on the tests were clinical in nature. As a nursing major it helped me because those were the types of situations I would be coming across. The lab for the class is also very fun and you learn a lot!

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the chapters in the textbook BEFORE you go over that chapter in class. Also, don't be afraid to go talk to her in her office if you are confused about things. She is super nice and helpful.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The professor does an exceptional job of relating the bacteria in the book to everyday life. Dr. Mikel has a great passion for protozoa and often refers to himself as one. The class is not easy, but quite challenging. This challenging class provokes the mind and helps to increase learning potential.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of the course is obviously the lab. You obtain samples from yourself or the environment and incubate them in the lab and preform several different test on them to eventually identify the genus and maybe even the species of the bacteria. Dr. Mikel allows the student to make a connection to the bacteria that is grown and allows for a memorable time that makes learning enjoyable.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

To succeed in this class you need to think like a bacteria. You cannot just read/memorize the bacteria in the textbook to succeed in the class. The professor words test questions in such a way that if you do not think like bacteria you will struggle in the class. Reading the textbook everyday and spending a lot of time in the lab are also key components that are required to do well in the course.
