Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I was nervous signing up for the class, but Bruce was an amazing professor, he uses so many real work examples from his businesses that it makes the learning easy. The midterms and final was fair, just go to class, do the reading and homework and you will pass. He says that if you pass the final you pass the class regardless of your overall grade.

    Course highlights:

The real work examples were my favorite, he also is a huge story teller, you will be laughing almost every class. He make the subject fun, I learned a ton about the business language.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure to stay on top of the homework if you fall behind it is really hard to catch up before the midterms.

    | No strong feelings either way.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I don't think I would recommend it to anyone who was not in the business minor (class is required for business minors). Unless you are interested in the world of accounting, this class is a lot more work and takes a lot more time than you'd expect. However, do not let the word "accounting" scare you out of taking it. I am not the best with numbers or math and it was mostly manageable for me. I do recommend that anyone interested in the business minor should do it. It provides you with basic understandings of business concepts that will help you in the future. Professor Dolan was super helpful and encouraged people to come to office hours for help on any concepts that did not make sense to them.

    Course highlights:

After taking this course I learned a lot more about what accounting really was. I feel like a lot of people think that accounting is just people looking at spreadsheets and doing math but there is much more to it. You learn a lot about how certain business decisions effect the success of the business. You also learn how to examine all different sorts of sheets, including income statements and balance sheets. You learn how the different spreadsheets relate to each other and how they work and why they are used.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Plan ahead. The tests will creep on you and you could find yourself cramming the night before. That is the worst thing you can do, especially with accounting. It is impossible to learn and remind yourself of all the concepts the night before an exam. Also, go to class. While attendance is not mandatory with Professor Dolan, you will be glad you went to class. Professor Dolan explains things in class that aren't explained well in the book. Lastly, be confident. The numbers and words of accounting may be intimidating but it really isn't. Take the homework seriously and study for the tests in advance and you will be fine!

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Shannon Dolan was an extremely dedicated professor who went above and beyond when it came to the exams. She offered multiple review session times and made sure those times worked for the majority of the students. However, it is not even easy course if you're looking to automatically receive an A, you have to work for it.

    Course highlights:

I learned a ton about how the various types of accounting sheets worked such as balance sheets, income statements, etc. worked and were used. I was able to gain more knowledge about how business keep track of their finances and how money is shuffled around to different areas depending on the type of business and the size. This class was heavy on calculation with concepts such as fixed costs, working capital, current ratio.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

It is extremely important to do every homework that is assigned on Cengage. Some of the assignments are extremely long and difficult but some will be shorter and easier. Ask the professor for homework help because she will be more than willing to help you. Fully take advantage of the study guide outline that she gives and do the practice problems as those will be the topics of the exams.
