Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to anyone that lives with, works with, or plans to have children. It is informative, well planned, and well structured. Dr. Tominey is dedicated to ensuring that her students do well and learn the material in ways that they can relate it in the real world. I especially love that instead of memorizing a lot of material, we have in depth discussions weekly, our quizzes are structured to ensure that we can demonstrate our level of understanding on the topic, as well as to utilize it in everyday applications. And we are assigned projects that stretch us, as well as engage us In relevant course content.

    Course highlights:

I learned a great deal about research and theory regarding parenting and parent education, including parenting styles and practices, discipline, parent-child interactions, attachment, and the family context with an emphasis on professional implications for promoting child health and well-being.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Utilize all of the recommended materials, take notes of class lectures, as much of the discussion posts, quizzes, and assignments draw on the information therein. Also, make a schedule each week to ensure that you are on task and able to turn in assignments in a timely manner.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is a very comprehensive course on parenting, but it is also a wonderful class for teaching parents and parent educators. Dr. Tominey is approachable, with the goal of helping her students succeed academically, as well as very well versed in the subject matter.

    Course highlights:

I gained a greater understanding of past and present theories about child development, why people have children, and don't, and the value of not judging another's choice, but to understand that people have individual needs of their own that need to be honored, especially when deciding to become a parent.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read all of the assigned articles and material, keep an open mind, and be willing to challenge what you have been previously taught. Doing so will open your eyes to some very helpful insights.
