    | Would highly recommend.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

    Even though it was mandatory, I was glad to have taken ENGR 220, because it provided a lot of introductory information on a wide variety of scientific topics.

    Course highlights:

    We learned about a multitude of topics ranging from crystal structures to stress-strain relationships to electricity and magnetism.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

    As long as you pay attention to the in-class and online lectures and do all the homework, the tests are pretty easy.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    Materials by far was the most interesting class I had taken my Freshman year. It was close to chemistry in terms of subject, but had applications and concepts from physics to bring in practical uses in the working world. What this meant that beyond just understanding material composition and crystal structures, you understood why the materials behaved the way they did when exposed to certain forces and pressures such as biaxial stress or bending tests.

    Course highlights:

    The different crystal structures, types of defects, percent composition and the effects of it, steady and non steady state diffusion, dislocations, solid solutions, stress and strain on different materials, types of corrosion and ways to minimize/prevent it, and one of my favorites, magnetic properties and how they work.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

    Study, study, study, do the problems in the book, do them over twice. You need to get some sort of familiarity with every type that will come up because while there may be things you will be asked to know, there will be problems like the ones you will encounter in the book, but with an additional step or another piece to them that can make them all the more complex. This means if you do not take the proper precaution and do the problems thoroughly, not only will you get the first part of them wrong, you will also flunk the additional part. Practice, practice, practice.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    Very tough course, it's a combination of math and chemistry. You'll be learning about how materials are made up and the way they act. There are weekly quizzes in this class which you must prepare for, if you don't you will surely fail them. Also the teacher isn't great, he's always grumpy and will call any student out if they do something that annoys him.

    Course highlights:

    I gained a lot of analytical skills that I may have never gained without taking the course.

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

    Read the book before going to lecture because that always helps. Also the quizzes are not that tough if you actually study for them.
