    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is rigorous but incredibly interesting and the teaching style is great!

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about the cellular makeup and the course helped me build on what I already knew.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Study well in advance for each exam!

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I think it is a great way to learn about biology independent of whether or not you have had prior knowledge about the subject.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course for me was learning about genetics. I really enjoyed that portion of the class.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would say take the course with an open mind and do not worry about the instructor. Taking the course with an open mind would help you manage the work load and not worrying about the instructor would help you learn more especially in the classroom.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

While this class is required for many students, I would definitely recommend it. Dr. Welsh is a very easy going, but intelligent professor who does not over complicate material. His notes are great for the visual learner and he makes himself, as well as study resources very available to the students.

    Course highlights:

This class takes a deeper look into the basics of biology by exploring concepts of energy production of a cell, genetics, and new cell production. Dr. Welsh spends a lot of time specifically on the cell's sodium/potassium pump, and the difference between plant cells and other cells.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would recommend reading over the notes each day after class even if it's just to skim the material because studying for the exams are less overwhelming when you have seen the material multiple times. Also, his multiple choice tests include a lot of options such as "none of the above, all of the above, and choices A and B," therefore make sure to have a strong grasp on the material.
