    | Would recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This was a great intro to General Chemistry. It is very math/calculation based and the exams are difficult, but as long as you do the practice exams that Dr Paterno posts, you will do fine.

    Course highlights:

In this course we covered so many basic chemistry concepts, but they all somehow seem to be built on top of each other. Dr Paterno is very knowledgeable and is very helpful if you go to her in office hours.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't wait until the last minute to complete ALEKS. Complete a few topics per day because you don't want to wait until the end of the semester and have a ton of topics that you still need to complete.

    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Paterno is incredibly intelligent. She's almost too intelligent. Her teaching is not always the most thorough and she's really tough with her tests and quizzes. She and her recitation TA's don't always have the best communication. It was hard and a lot of work is involved.

    Course highlights:

I learned the basics of chemistry. I still struggle but I am starting to do better in the second semester of the course. Lewis structures, nomenclature, acids and bases, etc were all covered.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Always do the book problems she assigns and your ALEKS. Every point counts and don't take the quizzes lightly. Make sure you understand the material and go get help if you struggle at all.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Paterno wasn't the best chemistry teacher I've had and would frequently go over difficult topics very rapidly with little explanation, but the course was still easy to get an A in if you put in the effort on your own.

    Course highlights:

I gained a really thorough knowledge of a lot of general chemistry topics

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Always do the ALEKS and the textbook problems really do help
