Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course to students, because not only does it provide insight and in-depth analysis into the various processes and components of life, but also because it is an interactive one as well; the laboratory component of this course is very hands-on and a wonderful way to look even more in-depth into many of the units of the Principles of Biology lecture. In addition, the instructor that I had for this course was great; he seemed to love teaching biology, as he did all he could to help students understand what went into this course, whether by drawing diagrams in lecture for better understanding of the material or spending time to talk to students in the laboratory or outside of the course altogether to help guide them into understanding of the material. Overall, I highly recommend BIOL 104 because of the depth that goes into it and the instructor's lengths to help students in succeeding in the course.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course included the thorough lectures and laboratory components and the variety in ways students were assessed in lectures and the laboratory component; for instance, there is a semester-long scientific paper project that allows students to develop on their scientific writing skills. I learned much about biology that I didn't understand in my previous AP Biology class in high school, including the intricacies of the processes involved in cellular respiration and photosynthesis.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would suggest paying attention in lecture and the laboratory, drawing any diagrams that the instructor uses to help further understanding of material, and studying a lot of the vocabulary and applications of said vocabulary. Also, for the scientific paper assignment, lots of research and effort is needed in order to do well.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course taught me to become more diligent in my school work. Assignments needed to be done in a timely fashion, and to always stay up to date on my readings and lab work. It is a tough course at first, however, if you keep to positive thinking and stay level headed it will be worth the time and effort.

    Course highlights:

I know now more about cells then I would have if I took the General Biology course. There is so much more depth in the majority of the topics, especially genes.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to work outside of the lecture hall twice as much as you did while sitting in on the lectures. It is not a course to brush off and wait until the last minute to finish all assignments. It will take plenty of discipline and hard work to receive a better than average grade for this course.

    | No strong feelings either way.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class if biology is your major and you have a high interest in the material.

    Course highlights:

I learned all about evolution and the cell and cell cycle.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would definitely try to stay ahead of the material and study the chapter before it is given in lecture just so you have a full understanding of all of the concepts. I also recommend taking advantage of office hours.
