    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Public speaking is an incredibly valuable skill, but it is also one of the most nerve-racking. I read a survey that found people are more scared of public speaking than death. Like most people I was terrified of speaking in front of others, but COMM allowed for me to face my fear in a comfortable environment of my piers. Once mastered, I have never been so scared again.

    Course highlights:

I was able to overcome my fear of public speaking. We were tasked with making a speech each week and with each coming week my nerves continued to subside and my presenting skills continued to enhance. By the end of the class, I was interested in pursuing a career that involved public speaking.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would tell them to face their fears head on, and throw themselves into it as soon as possible. The reason I chose to take COMM was because I knew it was a perfect environment to master my fears so that I would not have to face them later on in life. This class by no means puts you into a comfortable position and it will test your nerves, but if you are wiling to be challenged and interested in the rewards of overcoming these challenges this is the class for you.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It was a good challenge to learn how to speak for an audience. At the same time, Mrs Boyle was very nice to all of us, showing us both how to give speeches and how to listen.

    Course highlights:

I got to practice speaking up and to gain experience and confidence making speeches. I also got to hear some good presentations from my classmates.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

It's always a good idea to practice speeches several times ahead of time, if possible.
