    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The class was extremely difficult but in the end, proved to be beneficial for my major. It was time consuming and a substantial amount of work was required to pas the class. It was by far the most difficult class I have ever taken however, I passed with a B so it is absolutely manageable.

    Course highlights:

I learned about how molecules come together and break down. I learned how to name certain groups and I learned physical and chemical properties of each functional group. The basic information i retained in this course was used later in my physiology and microbiology courses so it all ties together.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Take notes before class and read the book. Going into lectures with a basic understanding of the material will be a life saver in the end. Don't be afraid to go to her office hours and the academic enhancement center. You most likely will not get through this class alone so aski for help is not a sign of weakeness, it's necessary in being successful in this course.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class is an introduction to basic organic chemistry. It is not a hands-on class, but there are a lot of examples in class that she gives to help apply the concepts learned in class. It is important to do these examples because they are central to the exams.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about time management and different study techniques. It is important to be able to listen in class, but still take notes and be attentive. I learned the material that was taught in the class, as well, and I actually really enjoyed the scientific aspect of it.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

While this class is very informative and interesting, it does require a lot of extra studying outside of lecture. Prof. Ngo posts the slides before each class, and I highly recommend writing these down before class, so you can fill in information as needed and you will be free to listen. In addition to following the notes, it is important that you utilize the practice problems she does in class and posts on Sakai. The textbook is, also, great for extra study material and I suggest you refer to the book frequently when studying for the exams.
