Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Simmring did an amazing job of going over multiple types of examples for each topic to really ensure that we understood. While it was a lot of homework and the quizzes were hard I felt this helped me fully prepare for the exams. So much so that I got an A in the class even though I had never taken a pre-calc course! The quizzes also really resemble the exams, so if you're able to get through the quizzes then the exams will be no problem at all

    Course highlights:

Although I haven't taken a calculus course since spring of 2016, I still remember everything I learned in this class. I still spend time to this day helping my residents who currently take this class. While it is a hard class, it was probably one of the most enjoyable classes at Penn State. Professor Simmring also gives lots of real world problems so that we can see how what we're learning applies to the real world.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

There is a lot of homework in this class. Take it seriously and really try to understand it. While it can be frustrating in the moment to do 100 problems nearly every week, I look back on it and am really pleased with how much it helped me overall. Don't wait until the last night to do homework because professor simmring loves to help and if you get stuck on a problem, he's more than happy to help you during his office hours!
