Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The title is slightly deceiving. This course is more of an exploration of creative non-fiction. However, this is the same thing that makes it very worth taking. Prof. Welsch provides a curriculum that truly highlights the process needed to create a piece in the non-fiction world. The building blocks laid out are easily understood and the Professor provides excellent personalized feedback and direction in learning the techniques presented.

    Course highlights:

The material comes from a very personal place, which makes the learning in this course hit home in many ways. I personally enjoyed the Meditation Project, wherein we had to create a piece in a nearly poetic form, utilizing chunks (that felt a lot like stanzas) and extended metaphors to explore something in our own lives. It really taught how writing can be organized in many ways to bring on meaning.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Read everyone's works! It is a workshop style class. Actually reading the pieces and investing in your peers shows quite a bit in your own writing.
