Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
This is the one math class you will actually use in real life. The professor is engaging and provides well thought examples.
Course highlights:
Formula sheet provided for tests, unlimited attempts on homework, and partial credit.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
Complete all homework until you get an 100%, also, if you get confused, youtube how to do the problem.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
This class teaches, in detail, the basics of probability and statistics, a course that surprisingly offers the type of mathematics that almost everyone uses every day. This mathematics can be applied in terms of finance, risk assessment, and even more simple aspects of our every day life such as weather and traffic. It is nice to learn about math that you can clearly see a reflection of in your day to day life. This course also helped me to develop problem solving skills and become better at understand how to think things out and then apply what I've learned.
Course highlights:
Along with life skills such as problem solving abilities and better mental math skills, I learned specifics such as histograms, binomial distributions, regression, correlation, and much more! This course expands on the probability and statistics we work through in our heads without second thought several times each day. Being able to use what I've learned in this course to help me in my own life was definitely a highlight.
Hours per week:
6-8 hours
Advice for students:
In order to succeed in MAT 120: Probability and Statistics, one must be committed to truly learning the material. It will not cut it in this course to merely memorize the information long enough to pass the unit test and then forget about it. Each unit expands on what you've learned in the one before, which makes it extremely important that you truly and comprehend how and why to use each formula, equation, etc. I have found YouTube very helpful when studying for this class; there are hundreds of probability and statistics videos that break down each step thoroughly for better understanding. It is also important that you do not wait until the night before a test to learn the material. Doing so will only confuse you more as there are several equations and rules that blend together if you try to cram them all in at the same time.
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
I would recommend this course, because it teaches skills that are used on a day to day basis rather than only in a math heavy profession. It teaches the probabilities of an event and how polls and things work. Should I take my umbrella since there's a chance of rain? What time should I leave to get to work on time? This course can help you answer these questions.
Course highlights:
Every year we are forced to sit through a math class and memorize formulas that we will only use in professions with a math base. I enjoyed this class, because I can use what I learned here in the real world every day. We learned about the chance of things happening, how surveys work, and even organizational skills. This class will for sure help me out in my future.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
Everyone should definitely take this class. This was one of the easier math courses that I took. You will learn great new skills and if you have the same professor I did, there won't be many extra hours of studying. My professor gave us a lot of practice and she made sure that we were ready for our tests. For that, I am grateful.
