Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would absolutely recommend this course! Ann Pederson was a thoughtful and flexible teacher who cared more about actual learning and growth than grades. She loves her job, and it really shows.

    Course highlights:

I was raised in a non-Lutheran denomination but chose a Lutheran university. This course was invaluable in helping me to not only learn about the history of the Christian faith, but also learn about Lutheranism through the perspective of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, one of the most celebrated Lutheran theologians ever.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This is going to sound cliche, but you should really do the reading. The class is discussion-based, not lecture-based, so it's important that you know what you're talking about. If you absolutely MUST skimp on reading (I get it, college is difficult and we're all busy), skim Ward and Bonhoeffer, but pay CLOSE attention to passages she talks about in class because you will have exam essays and you need to understand the concepts. If she still recommends Neither Wolf Nor Dog, I think that of all books is a must-read. Pastrix could probably be done away with entirely if need be, but it's a really fast read and I found it humorous.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This was a wonderful course. We read a number of works about the functionality of God. Dr. Swanson pushed the students to think big and allowed them to run with their ideas. Students were able to safely share their personal beliefs and relate to one another through those beliefs.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were the discussions and the papers. The discussions were opportunities to think critically and attempt to understand God over time. The papers were difficult to write because the directions were broad. This was intentional and although it was frustrating it ended up being very helpful.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read all of the works and take lots of notes during the lectures because all of the information presented will be on the tests.
