This class was tough.
Course Overview:
Although this course was taught in an unorthodox way, this was the best class that I have ever taken at RU. No one ever hears talk of difficult Math classes taught by PowerPoint Presentation; however, I believe this is the best approach to this subject matter. The instructor gave us EVERYTHING we needed to succeed in a timely manner! Although Calculus I is listed as one of the top 5 toughest courses at RU, I found it extremely less challenging due to the way it was presented. Also, this course taught me how to study. I was completely lost beforehand. Now, I feel prepared and ready to conquer any course that is present before me.
Course highlights:
My favorite aspect of this course was studying. All that I had to do was redo the problems given during lecture, and do a few practice test before an exam. I learned how to study. Actually going back to notes that I previous had taken allowed me to reinforce the material. I now know what studying smart means.
Hours per week:
6-8 hours
Advice for students:
Do EXACTLY what the professor tells you to, and you WILL get and A.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
It is an extremely challenging course. Incoming freshmen are the most common demographic in this class, and can be caught off guard by the level of difficulty. The professor does a tremendous job of instilling a strong work ethic among every student early on to prepare them for the rigor of upcoming semesters.
Course highlights:
Work ethic. I never approached the subject of calculus with much intensity until this class. Knowing calculus from high school was nowhere near sufficient to excel in this class. You had to make a sincere effort to master the material and reach out to professors and peers.
Hours per week:
6-8 hours
Advice for students:
Study hard from day one. Even though you may have a background in calculus from high school, the exams in this class are much tougher. It is important to put a lot of work into knowing the intricacies of the types of problems covered in the class, so that you can avoid falling for traps on the exams.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
This is an extremely difficult class. Threlfall is a very smart professor but he doesn't tend to spend much time explaining problems and equation to you. I didn't take pre-calc, i just jumped right into calculus 1 and at first i was a little behind, but i caught up pretty fast.
Course highlights:
This calculus course is recommended for any student that isn't a math major. I am a marine biology major, so this course was required. It is very fast paced, but the recitation is extremely helpful.
Hours per week:
12+ hours
Advice for students:
if you dedicate a massive amount of time into this class, you will succeed.
