    | Would highly recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Almost everyone has to take Gen Chem so there isn't really getting around that. Dr. Barnes is the best professor to take for it. She reads from the slides but if you engage with her during lecture or go to her office hours she will go more in depth to try and explain concepts to you. She really does want her students to succeed.

    Course highlights:

You will come out with an extensive knowledge of pH chemistry problems. A big section of the course covers pH, buffers, titrations, etc. The labs take what you learn in lecture and apply it to real situations.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to all lectures, labs, and discussions. Speak up if you need clarification. Go to the SI meetings or exam reviews, and if you can't make those at least print out the worksheets and try to work them on your own (they always post a key a day or two after the meetings).

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend it if you want to be challenged.

    Course highlights:

I learned basic chemistry but faster.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

All you need to be is focused. It can be hard to stay on task in labs and in lecture if you don't pay attention to instructions given.

    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would not recommend this course because all she does is read off her powerpoint slides. She does not explain the information well and her tests are hard, even if you study hours for it.

    Course highlights:

I learned some basic chemistry information.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be sure to read the book before lecture, print out the lecture slides for class, and take extra notes while she is talking. Reach out to your TA and they will probably help you more than Dr. Yang will.
