    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course is incredibly challenging but also very rewarding. If you are considering a career in medicine or any field dealing with microbial life, then this course will be paramount to your success!!

    Course highlights:

The highlights, in my opinion, were learning all of the different ways that microbial life can/will evolve to survive and how those physiological changes can rapidly change due to a number of different influences from their environment to genetic mutations.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to do a lot of studying outside of class. If you are taking Biology classes at the 400 level or above, then you more than likely want a career that deals with biology in some form or fashion. Consider your future and put the hard work in now so that it will pay off later!

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Zinser is a super cool professor and the class has a lot of interesting material! He does a great job of explaining concepts. He's super easy to talk to, so definitely talk to him if you're having trouble grasping something.

    Course highlights:

I learned so much from this course! It's a great class because you get to design your own microbe from the ground up. It's a lot easier than it sounds, too. Group work makes the project go a lot faster. There's not a bunch of weekly tests or homework to worry about. I learned how to make an awesome microbe that can interact with its environment and take out predators.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't wait till the last seconds to start the project! The work isn't hard, but if you let it build up it won't be pretty. Divvy up the work evenly, and start your section early. There's always time for minor tweaking, but you don't want to start your section from scratch the day before it's due, trust me.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Do not take this class if you have not taken Microbial Ecology, Microbial Genetics or BCMB 401 first.

    Course highlights:

The high light of this course is the board presentations. I learned that it is very important for a group to be cohesive to maximize the potential of the group's product.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do your own research and ask questions if you're confused. Do not solely rely on the book for take home exams.
