Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I LOVED taking Comp 1 with Dr. Chance. It was refreshing to hear her perspective in the midst of the largely uniform opinions represented by the rest of the University. She challenged me to write more professionally, competently, and interestingly. I enjoyed this course and would highly recommend it to any one coming to Union!

    Course highlights:

I think my favorite part of this course was our argumentative research paper. It was exhilarating to take a provocative stance on a controversial issue and I felt accomplished to do so in a professional way. Dr. Chance taught me how to have the proper tone in argumentative writing and how to be prosaic without being too flowery.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not procrastinate on papers. Get them done as soon as possible to allow yourself to have enough time to draft, proofread, and go to her office hours for one-on-one attention to improve your writing (and your grades!).

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Beavers is one of the most difficult professors in the English department. He makes you work hard for an A, but his classes and teaching style are very enjoyable.

    Course highlights:

My professor met one-on-one with us all at the campus coffee shop. This gave him the opportunity to get to know each of his students on a personal level. I learned so much info about writing and communicating in this class.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Put your best into every essay! There are only four so every point counts.
