    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor El-Ashmawy has high expectations for her students. There is a lot of individual coursework but ultimately the class is designed so that each student understands the material through critical reasoning and logical analysis rather than learning concepts by heart and repeating information from the textbook.

    Course highlights:

The professor is very enthusiastic about her subject and is not afraid to show it. So;e people may find that intimidating but I felt like her high expectations were a worthwhile challenge. I developed a newfound interest in chemistry, which had never particularly interested me before. I discovered that notions such as quantum chemistry are not as scary and complex as they sound because everything can be broken down into more simple explanations.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Prepare thoroughly before each class. Read the textbook, practice end of chapter examples and use the online study area to quiz yourself. The professor will not grade you so much on what you know, but rather on how well you can apply what you know to solve practical problems. Learn the course material as if you were prepared to teach it yourself.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class has sparked my interest in Chemistry, which I would love to pursue as my major as I continue to take pre-med courses on the road to medical school.

    Course highlights:

I was surprised to learn that many things I had been previously learned about atoms and chemicals were greatly simplified, yet despite Chemistry being difficult, I enjoy every aspect of it.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Visit with your professor if you are having any difficulty in the class, but also make sure to read the textbook first, because the answer you are looking for is most likely lying within the turn of a page.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The professor is awesome at teaching what you need to know and works problems with you in class. Be prepared to read and learn material before class. She offers great videos to help you learn the material.

    Course highlights:

I made some friends because you get put into groups at the beginning and get to work in them everyday.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Learn material before class and you'll be good. Anything you don't understand will be addressed in class through actual problems that she works out with the whole class.
