Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This introduction specifically deals with nomenclature, chemical structures, and how chemistry relates to our daily life. In addition, it develops how the chemicals relate to one another. For example, it begins to explain why oxygen is attracted to hydrogen. The concept of ionic and covalent bonding is explored.

    Course highlights:

I learned the rules that were necessary to naming compound, molecules, elements including transitional metals. Furthermore, I was able to learn how to balance compounds, adhering to the concept of matter is never lost.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I order to succeed in this course; studying is the key of course. But, I would sincerely recommend practicing the concept as soon as it is taught by the professor. The concepts build on each other and in order to master the new concept one must be very proficient in the older concept in order to be successful.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I have never had a single Chemistry class, even in high school, before now. But the instructor has really helped me understand and grasp the subject. This course is supposed to really help be a strong basis for what we will learn in Chem 1 or even Biology. And with a whole variety of lab sessions, we have learned how to apply the material we've learned to practical situations.

    Course highlights:

There was lots of math, which I enjoy. I learned about Avogadro's number, the periodic table, atoms, the different conversions needed, acids/bases.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If you need to take a Chemistry class at some point, take Introductory Chemistry first! Don't try to skip it if it's not a prerequisite. And if you need to take both Biology and Chemistry, still take this one first even before Biology. It is really so helpful with forming a strong understanding of the basics of not only Chemistry but other science courses as well. So don't worry if you do not already have some background knowledge in Chemistry. You will after this class.
