    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor Balderas, as the Emergency Manager for Rowlett, Tx, has first hand experience that he uses in his class. His town was struck by an EF-4 tornado 12-26-15. He is passionate and knows the in and outs of dealing with emergency management from a federal perspective, as he has fought for funding and recovery help for the displaced citizens of Rowlett.

    Course highlights:

Highlights would be the active shooter class and the step by step events of the Rowlett tornado, from onset to ongoing recovery.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Complete all reading assignments. Don't skip class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The Intro course is obviously required if you're in the major, but international studies majors might consider it. Dr. Schumann is new, but he's young and energetic and very passionate about his job. He's also a little geeky so that's a plus.

    Course highlights:

Dr. Schumann made a great intro class and brought lots of relevant material into the class for added learning.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared for new professor blips. Remember he's new!

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

If you are interested in Emergency management this is a great beginner course to give you an overall view of what the major is about.

    Course highlights:

Watching the Movie Trouble the Water which is a documentary on a Hurricane Katrina couple.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Come in with an open mind because the field is way deeper and you are just getting a broad overview
