Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Genetics can be really interesting, but I personally found the lecture to be a liiiiiittle boring. I know some people really enjoyed Padillas class, and that's great if you do. Definitely take Padilla over any of the other professors.

    Course highlights:

We learned about mitosis, meiosis, etc...but I really enjoyed learning about epigenetics and teratogens.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

The book can help reiterate all the things Padilla mentions, videos are SO HELPFUL. Her exams are straight from the notes so just make sure you're thorough and you'll do great. 3rd test is the most difficult.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr Padilla does a great job of explaining the intricacies of genetics without making it to detailed. This course is important for all biology majors as it gives you part of your foundation for whatever field in science you will pursue in the future. She is also really welcoming and willing to help students if they are ever unsure about something.

    Course highlights:

This course gave me a strong solid foundation for genetics. So much information I learned from this course in particular kept showing up in my upper level biology classes as well as biochemistry and psychology classes. It is very important for any science major to have an understanding of the genetics of life and Dr. Padilla's course gives you this.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

For this course you need to attend class. I believe she posts the power points on blackboard but if you actually attend class and take notes as she lectures you will do much better and learn more. Also you should spend some time reading the chapter in the textbook before going to lecture and this will help out a lot as well. When you do that before the lecture you know what confuses you already so can ask her questions during the lecture. This not only helps you but also the rest of the class participate in active learning.
