For the marketing department, it's more about who you know than what you know. I recommend getting to know your professors pretty well if you have time. They are a resource and they can also help you get summer internships that look great on your resume!
You gain a lot of in-depth knowledge about things that seem like common sense on the surface. This is one of the more enjoyable upper classes you will take.

Make sure you understand the growth rates of the marketing industry, and what kind of jobs you are able to get. A lot of jobs that are available in this field are commission based sales and pyramid schemes.
