    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor Arbery will make you work for your grade. She is extremely tough, but she will make you a better writer. She points out each inconsistency and tiny error you might have, making thoughtful suggestions along the way. She is open to any ideas you might have and her class is generally enjoyable because it is discussion based. Though she graded individual essays harder than I would have liked, she was fair in determining the final grade.

    Course highlights:

Our course topic was based on what can and cannot be known. We read many books and papers and were allowed to come to our own conclusions on if one can really ever escape the dark.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

To get an A in this course, I had to go to a conference for each paper that was due, spend hours reading the material and writing and rewriting my papers, and actively contribute to the conversation each class. It was hard but in no way impossible. Professor Arbery is usually free for you to go into office hours and bounce ideas off of her. Sometimes, she will direct your paper in a way that she wants it to go. Take her suggestions.
