Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

There was so much detail regarding the historical context and textural elements that were being shaped in the period. The progression and growth of music was influenced greatly in this period and a lot of our understanding of the function of music today can be attributed to the baroque era.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to dig deep into the slightest musical choices from compositions in the Baroque era. Risky moves were beginning to be taken rhythmically and texturally. It was fascinating to know things such as a composer writing a vocal part in a section of a piece in C may have implied their personal struggle in the story line due to the fact that the key of C is one of the most challenging keys to keep in tune.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be ready to learn a lot of unfamiliar and sometimes seemingly unapproachable concepts since it's music history from such a long time ago. But the professor did a great job tying in the modern impact the Baroque era has had on music and musicians.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is a writing intensive course. Although it was a lot of work, I expanded my writing skills and I still remember everything I learned from that class. I really enjoyed it.

    Course highlights:

In this course, I learned all about the Baroque and Classical music eras, focusing on the social and musical conventions of those times.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I studied with a partner for an hour before each class period and that really helped. I would advise not scheduling a class right before this one so that you can use that time to study.
