    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The type of subject matter did not interest me. However, if you are looking into the field of Anthropology, I feel like you would enjoy this class. Dr. Sandell is very knowledgable and demands a lot of reading and discussion in class. A lot of kids in my class really enjoyed it, but being a kinesiology major, I simply took the course to fulfill a requirement.

    Course highlights:

Discussion is a huge part of the course and grade. This is partly why I wasn't exactly thrilled with my final grade. Writing is a big part as well. His tests are essay questions, but you go through the material prior to the tests. You essentially know the answers, you just need to be able to convey them on paper effectively. I would say Dr. Sandell is a tough grader, but fair and he will work with you when you have an issue. You learn a lot about other cultures and their viewpoints, which was actually pretty interesting. Reading is pretty dense as well.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You need to participate in discussion, not only online, but in the classroom because he grades that as well. And make sure you read everything he tells you too. It will help you understand what the discussions are about during the class periods.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class is hard work and requires continuous studying. It is not a last minute course or on that you will be successful if you don't do the readings (which are weekly and LONG). This course also requires abstract thinking and the ability to look at situations through many different perspectives. Dr. Sandell is a tough grader but is willing to help you if you are willing to put in the time.

    Course highlights:

You learn a lot about Anthropology and what it's all about. If Anthro/Sociology is something you enjoy and would like to dig deeper into, this is a good choice for you. However, you have to be willing to put in the work.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do all of the readings. Do not skim through them thinking that you'll go back and read them when have more time. You will not go back and read them until the day before the test and you will not be successful if you wait until the night before class to study. He post plenty of resources for you to read through on his website. USE THEM. Ask for help if you need it. Main point: do the readings and put in the work.
