Do the readings and make sure to stay on top of everything. Also, be prepared for discussion, don't be shy

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class is required for all Theatre and Dance students but Katie does a great job creating a great learning environment and keeping the subject interesting.

    Course highlights:

I gained a pretty extensive knowledge of the history of theatre since the 1800s. We read a lot of the most important plays in history and talked about their cultural impact.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Actually read everything. And block out enough time to read everything. You won't get everything you need just from attending lectures. Your grade will suffer if you don't put in the effort.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Katie does a wonderful job of balancing the importance historical aspects of Theatre History, while keeping it relevant to what students are interested in learning and have time to actively learn. It is a lot of work, but the professor does a good job of creating alternative assignments and incentives for busy students.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about theatre history in places I didn't associate with theatre. While going through the importance of Greek, Roman, and European Theatre- the professor also brings in African, Asian, and Native American theatre practices and the way they influence the theatre world today

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to as many classes as you can. Read the plays, skim the readings. Communicate with the professor what you would be interested in learning and they will normally be accommodating.
