    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is a great, efficiently taught chemistry course. The sheer size can make learning difficult at times, but professor Toste has truly enhanced my understanding of the topic.

    Course highlights:

I learned many of the basic principles of chemistry that will help me throughout college. I will be able to apply what I've learned towards many different science topics. For example, I will use my knowledge of acids and bases when studying microfluidics. Or, I will study heats of combustion when a man made compound is put in the presence of heat.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay up to date on material. Try and study a little bit after every lecture, or at least review what you learned each week so that you aren't cramming to catch up.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

An interesting class, but HG taught it at the level of Chem 4A rather than Chem 1A. That beings said, it does set down a good foundation for basic chemistry.

    Course highlights:

Black box radiation, atoms and molecules, atomic/molecular orbitals, stoichiometry, gases, quantum mechanics

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay on top of lecture, go to office hours, read the textbook if you have to (but it wasn't too helpful). In chemistry, you learn mainly through practice, so do all the practice problems that you can in preparation for the exams.
