    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It's a great class, especially if you are going into a health profession and need it for graduate school! However, it's incredibly challenging and I highly recommend taking the time to understand the nuances of every concept.

    Course highlights:

I learned about the fundamentals of how chemicals react to one another and how every aspect of a molecule carries certain characteristics that contribute to how the molecule reacts overall.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Take advantages of the free tutoring services. The concepts are very difficult, but I believe talking it through with your peers really help. Do practice problems because I think a very important part of understanding is being able to capture the patterns!

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The class itself is somewhat intense, since there are a lot of reactions to memorize. The assigned problem sets help with exams, but it is a large amount of stuff for a 3-unit class. If you have a grasp of basic organic chemistry, it shouldn't be too hard, but it will take up a lot of your time. Grading was not very liberal, and really nitpicky.

    Course highlights:

As a biology major, I loved the occasional biology references. Learning how organic chemistry applies to everyday life was interesting. The course also taught me the importance of patience, since problem sets take a long time to finish, but are essential in doing well on exams.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Brush up on general chemistry and organic chemistry basics from high school. Finish the problem sets when they are assigned, don't procrastinate. Go to office hours and ask your lab GSI for help.
