    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

If you're interested in different methods of recording folklore and tradition, this is a fascinating course taught by a professor who has done a lot of impressive fieldwork.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about problems in the way folklore used to be researched and organized, and how fieldwork can lead to appropriation even today, as in music that samples field recordings without permission. I also learned exactly what constitutes folklore.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

There is a lot of reading to do for this course, and you need to do it. Don't leave the final project until the last minute!
