    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is a super interesting subject, however I did not have an interesting professor. If you are an independent student, then definitely take the course

    Course highlights:

It was interesting to see how traits are passed through generations, and the intricate processes in which they do so. I personally loved learning the intricate nature of DNA replication. We also learned about various lab techniques for replicating and observing DNA segments, which will be super helpful in the future.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely go to the SI sessions, that's where I learned most of the course material. Definitely read the book, but if you have Rock, go through his lecture slides. They are super material dense, but they have a lot of the information he likes to put on tests. He doesn't care about the intricate details, but MAKE SURE you really understand the topics as a whole.

    | Would not recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I've heard that this is the "best" genetics professor Tech has, but I don't think so! I can appreciate him really wanting us to learn the subject, but he's making things very difficult. Memorization will not save you. Read all of the book and do his practice tests. I go to SI but it hasn't been that great. Make sure to read way in advance. I've learned nothing from going to lecture.

    Course highlights:

Honestly, this is a little hard to fill out. I haven't finished the class so there's that, but I feel like I'm not learning anything. The little I have learned has been from the book. His lectures are very pointless, but you have to go since attendance is mandatory.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the book way in advance. Do his practice and ask any questions you have.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The subject of genetics is truly fascinating. If you are in biological sciences, I would definitely recommend taking this course. This being said, Dr. Zhang's course requires a lot of work. There is a lot of information that he wants you to know and he doesn't go as in depth in class as I would have liked. The key to passing this course is to attend every lecture (as he often goes over things that are not in the book) and to read the book.

    Course highlights:

You learn the basic principles of Mendelian and molecular genetics. You end up going over what you learned in your general Biology course, like meiosis, mitosis, and cellular replication, but that foundation allows for greater understanding when you come upon cytogenetics and gene expression.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the book and attend lectures. His accent can sometimes be hard to understand and his handwriting can often get messy, but he is a very approachable guy and will not berate you for asking for clarification.
