This class was tough.
I thought I was a decent writer before this course, but the skills I learned have helped me tremendously. As a public relations major, writing is an intensive part of the curriculum. This course not only made me a stronger writer, but it greatly enhanced my editing skills as well. It is a hard course and you will more than likely struggle at first, but the results are worth it. I'm a better writer because of it.
Highlights of this course were that the class is small enough that you get one-on-one assistance from the professor. Your editor, which is your professor, takes the time to explain how to fix your writing. As a student, this was one of the biggest reliefs I could get. Knowing I could ask questions and advice, made me want to go to class and participate. I learned how to interview individuals of various professions and how to take proper notes throughout. I also learned how to accurately present information in a news story that will entice the reader to read the article top to bottom. Finally, I learned AP style writing, which is one of the most intricate and difficult styles of writing, due to the extensive rules.

Advice for students:
If you are serious about bettering your writing skills and are willing to put in the work, then this course would be perfect to take. It will help you in future writing courses and communications situations. If you have required writing courses that you need to take, then I recommend to take this one first. It will prepare you for what's to come. You will spend a lot of outside time on this course, but it will be noticed in the higher grades you receive on articles.
