Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It was a fun and relatively easy language class. If you are interested in languages and want to get your feet wet, this is a great way to do it!

    Course highlights:

Since this was a beginning class, it focused on basic concepts, like the Korean alphabet, pronunciation, and basic sentence structure. We didn't get to a lot of conversational stuff until the end of the semester, and when we did it was almost all simple present tense, but that's to be expected in a beginning class.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't slack off at the beginning! If you miss out on how to read the alphabet or on the topic markers (big deal in Korean) then you'll be confused the entire time. Practice speaking out loud and listening at home or with a friend. Korean is very different than English and you need to give your mind plenty of opportunities to absorb it so it can process the new pattern and sounds. Don't despair if you can't master some of the pronunciations! Korean uses some sounds we don't have in English (or ones we don't realize we have). If you get hung up on perfect pronunciation you'll never learn anything.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is a great course since Korean is a fun but some what challenging language to learn. However Professor Yeonmi is very engaging and has lots of class interaction to help you better understand the material.

    Course highlights:

I gained knowledge of Korean vocabulary and basic sentence structure. However the peer interaction was the highlight of the course since my classmates grew close and began studying together and helping each other when we struggled.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Study the material such as vocabulary and sentence structure as much as possible. Also make some friends and get a little competitive with learning the vocabulary but for fun.
