    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    It's a challenging course that will be a good stepping stone for any pre-health students.

    Course highlights:

    The highlight of this course was learning how to apply the knowledge that was learned instead of just memorizing it.

    Form study groups and always study a little bit of the material each day.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    Although this is one of the most difficult Pre-Med courses you could take at this university, it is extremely helpful for any type of health-related career that requires a graduate school education. The amount of work that is required to learn about the different structures, functions, and components of the human body in this course will decrease your time spent doing the same amount of work in graduate school. To learn this type of knowledge at an earlier stage in your education is much easier than learning it among the top students in the nation in graduate school.

    Course highlights:

    Highlights of the course included the professor's own clinical situations. Since he has an enormous amount of experience as a doctor, real-life stories that he shares are always unique, intriguing, and allow students to see how relevant everything they're learning really is. Many of these clinical situations end up as exam questions, and although that means it's one more thing to study, they are definitely scenarios you might actually come across at some point in your career.

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

    Pay attention to what Ramirez talks about orally rather than his PowerPoint notes. Many of his exam questions have answers that are not present in his notes but are something he has said repeatedly in class. When he repeats something more than once, highlight this information clearly for later. Attendance to every class is not required, but is highly recommended, since no amount of information is too much for this class. Make sure to bring a pencil and pen along with your laptop to every class. Ramirez is fond of drawing certain concepts on paper and may pull out 9 or 10 drawings during one class. These drawings convey major concepts he wants you to remember and are important since they are not present on his slides. He also tends to physically stay on one slide while verbally talking about 5 or 6 slides, so make sure to individually go through multiple slides while he speaks to grasp the entirety of the information he is giving you.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    I would recommend taking this class with the required lab section because it's the closest class of "preparing to be an MD or PA" I've ever had. I got to not only know the structure, inside and out, of tissues and organ systems, but everything that could go wrong with them and current remedies we know of.

    Course highlights:

    The highlights for me were the labs and open labs, because I got to physically see and touch structures (making me unlikely to forget them), and Ramirez's questions on exams that applied pathology, diagnosis, and treatment concepts we learned.

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

    I would definitely read all of the pages AND diagrams in the textbook because every single detail and illustration is fair game. I would study every single day for the units on the Nervous System because it is so dense, especially any material on cranial nerves, spinal nerves, reflexes, and diagrams of how the eye works.
