    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Michaelis is a great professor and he is willing to help you with the work. He is down to earth, and he takes the time to help the class progress. He will help you when called up to the board so that you do not embarrass yourself, but he will do so by asking questions so that you can figure it out. He is able to connect the spiritual side of things to his class as well which is great.

    Course highlights:

In this class you learn the basics of organic chemistry. I learned about substitution, elimination, and addition reactions and their mechanisms. I learned how to name molecules, and how to form chair diagrams. I learned how to calculate the energy of reactions and also the amount of energy in a molecule based on the organization of the atoms. I also learned how to read HNMR graphs.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you take the time to do the readings and the homework. This class takes practice in order to get good at it and understand the material. Make sure to go to recitations since the TA's will help answer questions.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This was definitely a very difficult course. Any O Chem class will be. Dr. Savage was an incredible professor though. His tests are very difficult, but he is an awesome teacher, and he truly cares about the students. He wants to challenge you, but he wants you to succeed.

    Course highlights:

Dr. Savage focuses a lot on every day application of the things that you're learning. He always wants you to understand why what you're learning is important. I learned a lot about mechanisms in the human body and in materials around me. It was really cool.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Get a friend to study with! That's huge. I was taking it with my roommate and that helped so much!
