Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Brau is very engaging and makes learning finance fun. Study hard for the first test to start the semester right, and take advantage of the lab!

    Course highlights:

In this course you will learn the power of compounding interest/ the time value of money. The principles you learn in this class are more important than anything else you could learn in an introductory course.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Take Accounting 200 prior because chapters 2,3,4 are much easier if you have (the textbook basically assumes you learned accounting previously).

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it has so much real life application and knowledge. As a challenging class, the fulfillment I felt as I completed the course was incredible.

    Course highlights:

I loved the personal finance section that talked about how to buy a first house, car, and other real life situations.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay up to date on the projects and quizzes and avoid cramming for the midterms and tests. They sneak up on you.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It's a very useful class and a requisite for many of the majors on campus. Professor Brau is enthusiastic but at times he can get distracted and his instructions are unclear so reading the textbook is a must.

    Course highlights:

I was a complete novice in finance before taking the course. Learning things like mortgage rates, inflation, and investment returns has helped me make goals for my personal financial future.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you attend all classes, read all assigned chapters, and do all study guides. The knowledge from all three sources are used on the exams. It can also be helpful to have a study group.
