    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a highly engaged professor with a passion for the subject, but unlike most passionate teachers, is also organized! Her expectations are clear and she delivers difficult ancient material in fresh way. Also, because learning and education is a personal matter, she is flexible to students' needs and always available for consultations.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to get a grasp on texts that didn't make sense. She didn't expect me to understand, but gave us a way to analyze and ask questions and try to make connections that put me on the road to understanding and took away my fears of the unknown.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay on top of assignments, especially readings because the class is very discussion based. Also don't be afraid to talk with Patricia (the professor) because she is very open to accommodating students' needs in difficult times. Be sure to also let loose and become fully engaged because the class turned out to be a lot of fun for those who put in the effort.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is a very intelligent, qualified and engaging professor who really enhances the learning experience.

    Course highlights:

In this course, ancient texts like the Epic of Gilgamesh, Hebrew Bible's Genesis, Iliad and Plato's Republic have come to life. We have been challenged to read difficult texts but together bring our thoughts- any thoughts, questions, connections, etc and use those to all together get a better idea of what we are reading and connect it to ourselves. This class can also be customized to the student through student choice work- choosing what type of assignments to turn in based on your interests and strengths. Another big piece of this class has been Reacting to the Past where we take on historic roles in Ancient Athens and give speeches, vote and really dive into history.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be organized! Get to know your classmates because it's easier to succeed when you know people and can communicate outside of class.
