    | Would highly recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Stewart is fantastic! She is funny, intellectually challenging, and engaging in her lectures. She is passionate not only about art, but her students, and is excited to share her knowledge with everyone. Two tests, usually pretty heavy duty (don't take this class if you can't memorize!) and a paper.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about the foundations of art history, and this class actually led me to my minor. The highlights are definitely the group analyses, as well as the quizzes. Dr. Stewart's bonuses are really fun, and have saved my grades. I also learned how to sharpen my visual analysis skills.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make a timeline of the artwork you need to study, make sure you go to class every day, and talk in class! Participation is a big part of your grade, and you'll learn more. Also, make sure you sit towards the front so you don't have to be distracted by everyone else's laptop.

    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I probably wouldn't recommend this course to anybody other than those that are particularly passionate about Art History and have previous knowledge about the subject. While I found the actual information provided interesting and engaging, the professor taught the class as though everyone in it was an Art History major. I spent a crazy amount of hours studying for the exams and went to every class and both the midterm and the final were difficult.

    Course highlights:

Mainly, learning about the thought and trends of each period in the history of art (Spanish Baroque, Rococo, etc.) was the highlight of this course. I knew the majority of the paintings going into the class, but learning about the historical reasoning behind the subject and style was the most interesting and new aspect about the class.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Flashcards are a must! Also, if you are determined to get a good grade in this course, be able to know the basic information about a painting (subject, year, painter, etc.) off the top of your head. This will definitely allow you to focus on the important part of the required material: the meaning behind the piece.
